All the moving parts are metal and steel with sealed bearings. This thing is made for some maid in a motel to vacuum 8 hours a day. It should last you pretty much forever. The bag costs $1 and can hold months worth of stuff. A new belt costs $1 and should last 6 months to a year. With a 50' power cord, you can do the whole house at once. Ive owned expensive, bagless, dual V, pretty to look at, vacuum's that are very colorfull and exciting in presentation, but just dont last. They are all plastic with weak motors, and fall apart and cower in fear at the sight of my dog, cat and wife hair. It doesn't perform very well on HARD WOOD FLOORS or on TILE Flooring. And I would say that's the ONLY reason it received only 4-Stars from us. But, I also have to say that it performs as well as our Oreck XL, except that unlike the Oreck, it doesn't clean Wood or tile flooring. It's Excellent on Carpet!
