I was afraid that this would be another disappointment -- that it would be diluted or counterfeit. I should have had more faith in Amazon. Amazon.com has restored two of the fragrances I wore in my youth, both of which are sensational and evoke wonderful memories for me. Joy, with its inimitable bouquet of rose and precious jasmine, is one of those. Jean de Patou stopped making this incredible scent years ago, and I was thrilled to find it on Amazon. I had thought this was a hopeless cause -- that I would never be able to wear this fragrance again or find anything close to it. Fragrances today are so light they disappear within seconds of application -- a waste of money and time. The House of Jean Patou was the grand old master of the perfume world, creating fragrances that would last with a single spritz, would not be heavy or intrusive, and smell like . . . flowers. A good thing. I used to love "White Linen" from Estee Lauder but unfortunately every Estee Lauder perfume makes me sneeze and cough. What's worse, almost every fragrance I wear (no matter who makes it) smells like cat pee on me.I bought some Joy after reading about it and thinking that it might be a nice replacement for the White Linen that doesn't love me back. When I got it, it's definitely in the White Linen family, but it makes White Linen look like the poor relative. Oh. My. Goodness! How I LOVE this stuff. Every time I wear it, someone compliments me from every age range, be they young or old. This is the kind of scent that ANYONE can wear. It's subtle yet lasts all day; it doesn't assault your senses like 99% of fragrances made nowadays. It leaves a soft impression everywhere you go, you can smell it yourself without being overwhelmed. Incredible fragrance, it's like spraying on CLASS. |
