I tried a regular spray can type but the wind affected it too much, it was pretty much useless. I was not sure about this gun because of the short barrel, how it might aim and if it would be easy to hit a target accurately. I can say now, after using it, that it's not a problem. I hit a dog running at me full speed right in the face about eight feet away. It stopped him cold. While I certainly don't like pepper spraying dogs (I believe it's the owner's fault) the only option is to get bit or knocked off my skates at ten to twenty miles per hour. No fun! It's expensive to use but I called the police and he gave the owner two options; pay for the gun or get a $150 ticket for an off leash dog. He paid but he hated it. EDIT: You can now buy a holster for this gun for about $20. It's well made and has a very secure belt clip. 20 of 23 people found the following review helpful By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kimber PepperBlaster ll (Red) (Sports) I purchased this pepper spray gun for my adult daughter, who works in a downtown metro area, and must walk to and from an open parking lot daily. While I haven't actually used or discharged the gun myself, I used other positive reviews, and the positive ergonomics of this spray gun to make my purchase choice. This pepper spray gun falls into a reasonable very but functional bracket. It has the functional ergonomics of a hand gun, but looks like a kids water pistol. The other ends of the spectrum available are the almost useless small bottle type pepper sprayers that are difficult to aim and seldom work, and the high end pepper spray guns that look too much like a real hand gun, creating a whole additional set of problems in an urban setting. This Kimber spray gun can be accurately aimed and has two full charges, each able to shoot at what would be considered high velocity for this type of device, and out from a safer distance of around 12 feet or so. Distance is your friend in... I will carry it in my purse, but would prefer to clip it on my waistband or on the edge of purse. It is also bright red so it does not "look" like a cell phone which I preferred from a previous Kimber model. I understand that you don't want this to be confused with a handgun. Hopefully, the previous Kimber model will be available soon. |
